What is the Maple Leaf Free Yard Sale event?
Neighbors will be setting out free stuff “yard-sale” style, in driveways and along roads, but at NO COST, sharing what they no longer need with you and with each other. It is in the spirit of the Buy Nothing Project, "Buy less. Share more.".
When is it?
The Maple Leaf Free Yard Sale event will be held on a Sunday in July from approximately 10AM to 2PM (timing can vary by sale). To avoid conflicts with the week of the Independence Day holiday, the event will be scheduled for the Sunday after the second Wednesday in July.  Upcoming dates would therefore be:
2026 - July 12th
2027 - July 18th
2028 - July 16th
Who can participate?
This event is open to anyone in the general Maple Leaf and surrounding area of Seattle.  Loose boundaries are between Interstate-5 and Lake City Way from NE 75th St to Northgate Way / 110th.  Please participate even if you aren't quite in these boundaries!
How can I participate?
There are multiple ways to participate (try them all!):
1. Host your own FREE “sale”, big or small.  Sign up to get your sale on the map!
2. Visit the “sales” during this FREE event.  Check out the current map of "sales"!
3. Spread the word. RSVP and share the Facebook event page, and check out how else you can promote the event!
Do I have to sign up to participate?
Nope! Signing up helps drive traffic to your "sale", but is not required.  There is no sign-up for visitors to sales.
How much stuff do I need to justify hosting a "sale"?
As much or as little as you'd like.  Or join forces with neighbors!  New in 2026 we will have "hubs" where smaller sales can consolidate; details TBD.
What if I'm not available during the whole 10AM-2PM timeframe?  Or want to leave?
No problem!  You set the hours and have no obligation to be present at the "sale".   It is helpful to add any restrictions or extensions of the timing to the "details" section when you sign up so visitors are aware.
How can I ensure my display table or other off-limit items won't be taken?
In the past people hosting unstaffed sales have put out signs for visitors to help themselves and clearly label any items that are off-limits. But please note that misunderstandings do happen, and participation is at your own risk.
Can I have some items for sale at the same time?
We request that if you participate in this event that the items at your "sale" are strictly free. This helps prevent confusion and misunderstandings.
How do I sign up?
Use the signup form, Your address and any notes about your "sale" will be added to the map of "sales".  Please note that this map is available publicly.
You may also add up to 3 photos of your "sale" or sale items at any time after sign-up using this photo upload form.
I need to edit my “sale” details or remove it. How do I do that?
No problem! If you need to edit the details, simply fill out the sign-up form or the photo upload form again and the newest entry will replace the old, including "blank" submissions. If you need to remove your sale, or there are any issues with this process, please email MapleLeafFreeYardSale@gmail.com with your sale address and the requested changes.
What if I still have stuff left over at the end of the event that I want to get rid of?
Hosts are responsible for their items at the end of the event. We recommend posting any remaining items in your local Buy Nothing group.
I want to check out the “sales” in advance and make a plan. Where can I find the map?
Find the most up-to-date map here.
How can I find the details of a particular “sale”?
On the map, click a location to reveal a popup containing the address, notes, and any photos. A newly added "Printable View" displays the map and a complete list of sales with details, all in one document, if you prefer.
Can I search the map of “sales” for particular items?
Yes! A newly added search feature allows you to filter the sales based on search terms and availability of images.
Since it's free, can I just take whatever I want?
The same guidelines for Buy Nothing apply here—participants decide how to give, and participation is at your own risk.  "Sale" hosts are not obligated to give. If a participant has included special instructions for their sale, please abide by their requests.
What if I missed the event?
There are often items remaining at the end of the event. We recommend checking out your local Buy Nothing group. Also consider participating in the Lake City / Cedar Park Yard Share Day or Wedgwood Free Yard Sale Day. Look out for save-the-dates for next year's event!
